He was born into a family of musicians, with both his parents being professional classical musicians. His father was a renowned cellist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Kortchak was exposed to classical music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Kortchak's parents recognized his talent early on and began to nurture it. He received his first piano lessons from his mother, and by the age of six, he was already performing in public. Kortchak's parents were his first teachers, but he also received training from some of the best piano teachers in Russia. At the age of ten, Kortchak won his first major competition, the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians. This was a significant achievement for Kortchak, and it marked the beginning of his career as a professional pianist. He continued to win competitions throughout his teenage years, including the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland. In 2003, Kortchak moved to the United States to study at the Juilliard School in New York City. He studied under the renowned pianist Emanuel Ax and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2007. During his time at Juilliard, Kortchak won several awards, including the Gina Bachauer Piano Competition and the Concert Artists Guild Competition. After graduating from Juilliard, Kortchak began to perform extensively throughout the United States and Europe. He has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Kortchak has also performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonie. Kortchak's repertoire is vast and includes works by some of the greatest composers in history, including Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff. He is particularly known for his interpretations of Chopin's music, and he has recorded several albums of Chopin's works. In addition to his performances, Kortchak is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at several music schools, including the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music. Kortchak is passionate about passing on his knowledge and experience to the next generation of musicians. Throughout his career, Kortchak has received numerous awards and accolades. In 2010, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is one of the most prestigious awards for young classical musicians in the United States. In 2012, he was named a Steinway Artist, which is a designation given to the world's most accomplished pianists.
