The choir was founded in 1969 by Helmut Wolf, who was the director of the Trossingen Music Academy at the time. The ensemble is made up of students and alumni of the academy, as well as other professional singers. The choir has had several directors over the years, including Helmut Wolf, Klaus Breuninger, and Frieder Bernius. Under the direction of Bernius, the choir has gained international recognition for its performances of early music, particularly the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. One of the highlights of the choir's history was its performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion in 1999, which was recorded and released on CD. The recording received critical acclaim and won several awards, including the Echo Klassik award for best choral recording. The choir has also performed at several prestigious music festivals, including the Rheingau Musik Festival, the Bachfest Leipzig, and the Festival Internacional de Música de Canarias. In 2010, the choir was invited to perform at the World Choral Symposium in Puerto Madryn, Argentina.
