Mauricio Nader is a Chilean classical guitarist and composer who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and innovative compositions. Born on August 28, 1979, in Santiago, Chile, Nader showed an early interest in music and began playing the guitar at the age of six. He was inspired by the music of his country, particularly the folk music of the Andes, as well as the classical guitar repertoire. Nader's talent was evident from a young age, and he began studying with renowned guitar teachers in Chile, including Luis Orlandini and Ernesto Quezada. He also attended masterclasses with international guitarists such as Manuel Barrueco, David Russell, and Pepe Romero. Nader's dedication to his craft paid off, and he won several national and international competitions, including the first prize at the International Guitar Competition of La Serena in 1998. In 2000, Nader moved to Germany to continue his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg, where he studied with the renowned guitarist and composer Hubert Käppel. During his time in Germany, Nader also had the opportunity to perform in prestigious venues such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the Hamburg Laeiszhalle. Nader's career as a performer and composer has been marked by numerous highlights and achievements. In 2003, he won the first prize at the International Guitar Competition of Havana, Cuba, and in 2004, he was awarded the prestigious German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarship, which allowed him to continue his studies in Germany. Nader has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in major concert halls and festivals around the world, including the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona. He has also collaborated with renowned musicians such as the cellist Yo-Yo Ma and the pianist Martha Argerich. In addition to his career as a performer, Nader is also a prolific composer. His compositions draw on a wide range of influences, from the classical guitar repertoire to the music of his native Chile. He has written works for solo guitar, chamber ensembles, and orchestra, and his music has been performed by musicians around the world. Nader's compositions have been recognized with several awards and commissions. In 2007, he won the first prize at the International Composition Competition of the Guitar Foundation of America, and in 2010, he was commissioned by the Berlin Philharmonic to write a piece for guitar and orchestra, which was premiered in 2011. Nader's dedication to promoting the classical guitar and its repertoire has also led him to establish the Mauricio Nader Guitar Academy in Santiago, Chile, where he teaches and mentors young guitarists. He has also served as a jury member for several international guitar competitions, including the Guitar Foundation of America and the International Guitar Competition of La Serena. In recognition of his contributions to the classical guitar world, Nader has been honored with several awards and distinctions. In 2012, he was awarded the Order of Merit Gabriela Mistral by the Chilean government, and in 2016, he was named an honorary member of the Chilean Guitar Society. Nader's career as a performer, composer, and educator continues to thrive, and he remains committed to promoting the classical guitar and its repertoire around the world.
