Role:EnsembleEnsemble 360 is a classical music ensemble based in Sheffield, England. The group was founded in 2005 by members of the Sheffield-based chamber orchestra, the Sheffield Chamber Music Festival. The ensemble consists of eleven musicians, including five wind players, five string players, and a pianist. The founding members of Ensemble 360 were Benjamin Nabarro (violin), Gemma Rosefield (cello), Adrian Wilson (clarinet), Matthew Hunt (clarinet), and Tim Horton (piano). The group's name comes from the fact that it was originally formed to perform the complete cycle of Mozart's chamber music, which consists of 360 works. Since its founding, Ensemble 360 has become one of the most respected chamber music ensembles in the UK. The group has performed at major venues and festivals throughout the country, including the Wigmore Hall in London, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Aldeburgh Festival. The ensemble has also toured internationally, performing in countries such as Germany, France, and the United States. Ensemble 360 has a diverse repertoire, ranging from classical works by Mozart and Beethoven to contemporary pieces by living composers. The group has commissioned and premiered works by composers such as Mark-Anthony Turnage, Huw Watkins, and Sally Beamish. One of the highlights of Ensemble 360's career was their performance of the complete cycle of Mozart's chamber music at the Wigmore Hall in London in 2010. The group performed all 23 of Mozart's string quartets, as well as his quintets, sextets, and other chamber works, over the course of ten concerts. The series was highly acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, and was described by The Guardian as "a triumph of musicianship and programming." Ensemble 360 has also been recognized for their recordings. The group's recording of Mozart's Clarinet Quintet, featuring clarinetist Matthew Hunt, was named "Editor's Choice" by Gramophone magazine in 2011. The ensemble's recording of chamber works by the British composer Frank Bridge was also highly praised by critics. In addition to their performances and recordings, Ensemble 360 is committed to music education and outreach. The group regularly performs in schools and community centers, and has developed a number of educational programs for young people. The ensemble also runs a chamber music festival in Sheffield, which features performances by Ensemble 360 and other chamber music groups. Ensemble 360's current members are Benjamin Nabarro (violin), Claudia Ajmone-Marsan (violin), Ruth Gibson (viola), Gemma Rosefield (cello), Laurène Durantel (double bass), Matthew Hunt (clarinet), Adrian Wilson (clarinet), Matthew Wilkie (bassoon), Naomi Atherton (horn), Tim Horton (piano), and Julian Argüelles (saxophone).
