Tien Hsieh is a renowned classical pianist who has captivated audiences around the world with her virtuosic performances and deep musicality. Born in Taiwan in 1979, Hsieh showed an early aptitude for music and began studying piano at the age of four. Her parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music, enrolling her in the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City when she was just 12 years old. At Juilliard, Hsieh studied with some of the most respected piano teachers in the world, including Yoheved Kaplinsky and Jerome Lowenthal. She quickly distinguished herself as a prodigious talent, winning numerous awards and competitions, including the Juilliard Concerto Competition and the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition. After graduating from Juilliard with a Bachelor of Music degree, Hsieh continued her studies at the Yale School of Music, where she earned a Master of Music degree and an Artist Diploma. She also studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany, where she worked with renowned pianist and pedagogue Karl-Heinz Kämmerling. Throughout her career, Hsieh has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. She has also given recitals at major concert halls and festivals around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Ravinia Festival, and the Salzburg Festival. Hsieh is known for her passionate and deeply expressive playing, as well as her technical mastery of the piano. She has a particular affinity for the music of Chopin, and has recorded several albums of his works, including a critically acclaimed recording of his complete Nocturnes. In addition to her performing career, Hsieh is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. She has taught at the Yale School of Music, the University of Michigan, and the University of Kansas, and has given masterclasses and workshops around the world. She is known for her ability to inspire and guide young musicians, and has helped many of her students to achieve success in their own careers. Throughout her career, Hsieh has received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to the world of classical music. In 2002, she was named a Gilmore Young Artist, one of the most prestigious awards for young pianists. She has also been awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award, and the Salon de Virtuosi Career Grant. Despite her many accomplishments, Hsieh remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to perform and teach around the world, sharing her love of music with audiences and students alike. Her passion and dedication to the piano have made her one of the most respected and beloved classical musicians of her generation.
