Son Sonora String Quartet is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over a decade. The quartet was founded in 2009 by four talented musicians who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to create a unique sound that would set them apart from other ensembles. The founding members of Son Sonora String Quartet are violinists Sarah Johnson and Rachel Kim, violist David Lee, and cellist James Park. All four musicians had impressive backgrounds in classical music and had performed with various orchestras and ensembles before coming together to form the quartet. The quartet's name, Son Sonora, is a nod to their shared love of Latin American music and culture. The name translates to "sound of Sonora," which is a region in Mexico known for its vibrant music scene. From the beginning, Son Sonora String Quartet set out to create a unique sound that blended classical music with Latin American influences. They achieved this by incorporating traditional Latin American rhythms and melodies into their performances, while still staying true to the classical music tradition. The quartet quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional musicianship and dynamic performances. They have performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the United States, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. One of the highlights of Son Sonora String Quartet's career was their performance at the 2012 Latin Grammy Awards. The quartet was invited to perform with renowned Latin American singer-songwriter Juanes, and their performance was widely praised for its innovative blend of classical and Latin American music. In addition to their performances, Son Sonora String Quartet has also received numerous awards and accolades for their work. They were the winners of the 2010 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, one of the most prestigious chamber music competitions in the United States.
