The choir was originally formed as a student ensemble at the University of Gothenburg, under the direction of Eric Ericson, a prominent Swedish choral conductor. The choir's repertoire is diverse, ranging from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary works. The choir has premiered many new works by Swedish composers, including Sven-David Sandström, Karin Rehnqvist, and Jan Sandström. The choir has also collaborated with other ensembles, including the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Swedish Radio Choir.
