Artist Info

Manfred Gerbert was born on May 12, 1975, in Vienna, Austria. He was born into a family of musicians, and his parents were both professional classical musicians. His father was a renowned cellist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Manfred showed a keen interest in music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Manfred began his musical education at the age of five, when he started taking piano lessons with his mother. He quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument, and by the age of ten, he was already performing in public. He continued his studies at the Vienna Conservatory, where he studied under some of the most renowned piano teachers in the world. In 1993, Manfred won first prize in the International Piano Competition in Vienna, which launched his career as a professional musician. He went on to perform in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Manfred's performances were always highly acclaimed, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented pianists of his generation. He was known for his technical skill, his musicality, and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. In 1998, Manfred was awarded the prestigious International Piano Prize, which is awarded every four years to the most outstanding pianist under the age of 30. This award cemented his reputation as one of the most talented young pianists in the world. Over the years, Manfred continued to perform and record extensively. He released several critically acclaimed albums, including a recording of Beethoven's complete piano sonatas, which was hailed as a landmark recording. In addition to his solo performances, Manfred also collaborated with some of the world's leading orchestras and conductors. He performed with the Vienna Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic, among others. Despite his success, Manfred remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to practice for hours every day, always striving to improve his technique and his interpretation of the music he played. Tragically, Manfred's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2005. He underwent several rounds of treatment, but ultimately succumbed to the disease in 2007, at the age of 32. Manfred's death was a great loss to the world of classical music. He was remembered not only for his incredible talent, but also for his kindness, his generosity, and his passion for music. His legacy lives on through his recordings and the memories of those who were fortunate enough to hear him play.
