Artist Info
Period:BaroqueClassicalGenre:ChamberKeyboardEva Nordenfelt was a Swedish classical music artist who was born on May 5, 1891, in Stockholm, Sweden. She was the daughter of a wealthy family and grew up in a musical household. Her father was a composer and her mother was a singer, so it was no surprise that Eva showed an interest in music from a young age. Eva began her musical education at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where she studied piano and composition. She was a talented pianist and quickly gained recognition for her skills. In 1911, she won the first prize in the piano competition at the college, which was a significant achievement for a young musician. After completing her studies at the Royal College of Music, Eva continued her education in Germany. She studied with some of the most renowned pianists of the time, including Ferruccio Busoni and Artur Schnabel. Her time in Germany was a formative period in her career, and she developed a deep appreciation for the German classical music tradition. Eva's career as a concert pianist began in earnest in the 1920s. She performed extensively throughout Europe, and her concerts were highly acclaimed by audiences and critics alike. She was particularly renowned for her interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Mozart, and Schubert. One of the highlights of Eva's career was her performance at the Salzburg Festival in 1930. She was invited to perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Bruno Walter. The performance was a resounding success, and Eva received a standing ovation from the audience. Eva's career was interrupted by the outbreak of World War II. She returned to Sweden and continued to perform, but her opportunities to travel and perform abroad were limited. Despite this, she remained an active performer and continued to inspire audiences with her music. In addition to her career as a performer, Eva was also a respected teacher. She taught at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and mentored many young musicians who went on to have successful careers in their own right. Eva's contributions to classical music were recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 1946, she was awarded the Litteris et Artibus medal by the Swedish government for her contributions to the arts. She was also made a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in 1950. Eva Nordenfelt passed away on December 22, 1978, at the age of 87. She left behind a legacy as one of Sweden's most accomplished classical musicians. Her dedication to her craft and her passion for music continue to inspire musicians and audiences around the world.More....
