He began studying at the Paris Conservatory at the age of 11 and quickly became one of the most promising students in his class. He studied under some of the most renowned music teachers in France, including Yvonne Lefébure and Marguerite Long. In 1952, Doyen won first prize at the Paris Conservatory's piano competition, which launched his career as a professional musician. He began performing in concerts throughout France and quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented pianists of his generation. Doyen's career took off in the 1960s when he began performing internationally. He made his debut in the United States in 1962, performing at the Carnegie Hall in New York City. He also performed in other major cities around the world, including London, Tokyo, and Moscow. One of Doyen's most notable performances was his 1965 performance at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. He was the first French pianist to compete in the prestigious competition, and he won third prize. His performance was widely praised by critics, who noted his technical skill and emotional depth. Throughout his career, Doyen was known for his interpretations of the works of French composers, particularly Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel.
