Peter Harrower was born on May 15, 1985, in London, England. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Harrower showed a natural talent for music, and he began playing the violin at the age of four. Harrower's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking lessons with renowned violin teachers and quickly became known for his exceptional skill and musicality. By the age of ten, he had already won several local competitions and was performing regularly in concerts and recitals. As Harrower continued to develop his skills, he began to attract the attention of major orchestras and conductors. In 2001, he was invited to perform with the London Symphony Orchestra, and his performance was met with critical acclaim. This led to further opportunities, and Harrower soon found himself performing with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Vienna Philharmonic. Harrower's talent and dedication to his craft did not go unnoticed, and he quickly began to receive numerous awards and accolades. In 2003, he was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise for the future. This was followed by the Royal Philharmonic Society's Young Artist Award in 2005 and the BBC Young Musician of the Year Award in 2006. Despite his success, Harrower remained humble and focused on his music. He continued to practice and perform tirelessly, always striving to improve his skills and deepen his understanding of the music he played. His dedication paid off, and he soon became known as one of the most talented and respected violinists of his generation. Throughout his career, Harrower performed a wide range of repertoire, from classical works by Bach and Mozart to contemporary pieces by living composers. He was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven, and his performances of the composer's violin sonatas were widely praised for their depth and emotional intensity. In addition to his solo performances, Harrower was also a sought-after chamber musician. He frequently collaborated with other musicians, including pianist Martha Argerich and cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and was a member of several prominent chamber ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet and the Guarneri Quartet. Despite his many accomplishments, Harrower remained committed to giving back to the musical community. He frequently taught masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and was a passionate advocate for music education. He also served on the boards of several music organizations, including the American String Teachers Association and the National Association of Schools of Music. Tragically, Harrower's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2015. Despite undergoing extensive treatment, he passed away on June 12, 2017, at the age of 32. His death was a great loss to the musical community, and he was mourned by musicians and music lovers around the world. In the years since his passing, Harrower's legacy has continued to inspire and influence young musicians.
