Role:EnsemblePeriod:RenaissanceModernGenre:ChamberChoralTrio Con Brio is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1999 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The group consists of two sisters, Soo-Jin Hong and Soo-Kyung Hong, on violin and cello respectively, and pianist Jens Elvekjaer. The trio has gained international recognition for their dynamic and expressive performances, as well as their innovative programming. The founding members of Trio Con Brio, Soo-Jin and Soo-Kyung Hong, were born in South Korea and began their musical training at a young age. They both studied at the Juilliard School in New York City, where they met pianist Jens Elvekjaer, who is originally from Denmark. The three musicians formed Trio Con Brio in 1999, and quickly gained attention for their exceptional musicianship and chemistry as a group. Trio Con Brio's repertoire includes works from the classical and romantic periods, as well as contemporary pieces. They are known for their interpretations of the music of Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms, as well as lesser-known composers such as Danish composer Niels Gade. The trio has also commissioned new works from contemporary composers, including Bent Sørensen and Per Nørgård. One of Trio Con Brio's most notable performances was at the 2005 Copenhagen Summer Festival, where they performed Beethoven's Triple Concerto with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. The performance was praised for its energy and precision, and helped to establish the trio as one of the leading chamber ensembles in Denmark. In 2007, Trio Con Brio won the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award, which is one of the most prestigious awards for chamber ensembles. The award included a cash prize and a series of concerts in the United States, which helped to further raise the trio's profile. Since then, Trio Con Brio has performed at major concert halls and festivals around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Wigmore Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. They have also released several critically acclaimed recordings, including a series of albums featuring the complete piano trios of Beethoven and Schubert. In addition to their performances and recordings, Trio Con Brio is also committed to music education and outreach. They have worked with young musicians in Denmark and around the world, and have given masterclasses and workshops at universities and conservatories. Overall, Trio Con Brio is a highly respected and accomplished classical music ensemble that has made significant contributions to the world of chamber music. Their exceptional musicianship, innovative programming, and commitment to education and outreach have earned them a devoted following and numerous accolades.More....
