Virginia Pleasants was born on May 12, 1985, in Richmond, Virginia. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Virginia showed a natural talent for music and began taking piano lessons at the age of five. As Virginia grew older, she became more interested in classical music and began studying under renowned pianists in the Richmond area. She also began competing in local and regional piano competitions, winning numerous awards and accolades. In 2003, Virginia was accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City, where she studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist Emanuel Ax. During her time at Juilliard, Virginia continued to excel in her studies and was awarded numerous scholarships and awards. After graduating from Juilliard in 2007, Virginia began performing professionally, both as a soloist and as part of various ensembles. She quickly gained a reputation as a talented and dynamic performer, known for her technical skill and emotional depth. One of Virginia's most notable performances came in 2010, when she was invited to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. as part of the National Symphony Orchestra's Young Soloists Competition. Her performance was widely praised, and she was awarded first prize in the competition. In addition to her solo performances, Virginia has also collaborated with a number of other musicians and ensembles. She has performed with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, among others. Throughout her career, Virginia has received numerous awards and accolades for her performances. In 2012, she was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians and provides financial support to help them further their careers. Despite her success, Virginia remains dedicated to her craft and continues to work tirelessly to improve her skills and expand her repertoire. She is widely regarded as one of the most talented and promising young pianists of her generation, and her performances continue to captivate audiences around the world.
