Ossia is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2006 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in Rochester, New York, and is made up of some of the most talented musicians in the area. The founding members of Ossia were violinist David Brickman, violist Chiao-Wen Cheng, cellist Mimi Hwang, and pianist Yi-Wen Chang. All four musicians had extensive experience performing in various orchestras and chamber groups, and they came together with the goal of creating a new ensemble that would showcase their individual talents while also exploring the rich repertoire of chamber music. Over the years, Ossia has grown and evolved, with new members joining and others moving on to pursue other opportunities. However, the ensemble has always maintained its commitment to excellence and its dedication to bringing the beauty and power of classical music to audiences around the world. One of the highlights of Ossia's early years was its performance at the 2008 Skaneateles Festival, where the ensemble received rave reviews for its interpretation of works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Dvorak. This performance helped to establish Ossia as a rising star in the world of classical music, and the ensemble soon began receiving invitations to perform at other prestigious venues and festivals. In 2010, Ossia was invited to perform at the prestigious Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., as part of the center's Conservatory Project. This was a major milestone for the ensemble, and it helped to cement its reputation as one of the most exciting and innovative chamber groups in the country. Since then, Ossia has continued to perform at major venues and festivals around the world, including the Ravinia Festival, the Chautauqua Institution, and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the most renowned musicians in the world, including violinist Joshua Bell and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. In addition to its performances, Ossia has also received numerous awards and accolades for its recordings. The ensemble's debut album, "Ossia: Live at the Memorial Art Gallery," was released in 2009 and received critical acclaim for its innovative programming and virtuosic performances. Since then, Ossia has released several more albums, including "Ossia Plays Beethoven" and "Ossia Plays Brahms," both of which have been praised for their technical precision and emotional depth. Throughout its history, Ossia has remained committed to its mission of bringing the beauty and power of classical music to audiences around the world. With its innovative programming, virtuosic performances, and unwavering dedication to excellence, the ensemble has established itself as one of the most exciting and dynamic chamber groups in the world today.
