Little Consort is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2015 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for early music. The ensemble is based in London, UK, and is known for its innovative and dynamic performances of music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The founding members of Little Consort were all graduates of the Royal College of Music in London, and included violinists Alice Earll and Hannah McLaughlin, viola da gamba player Poppy Walshaw, and harpsichordist Satoko Doi-Luck. The group was initially formed as a way for these musicians to explore their shared interest in early music and to perform together in a more intimate setting than a full orchestra. In addition to their live performances, Little Consort has also released several recordings, including their debut album, "In Nomine," which features works by William Byrd and other English composers of the Renaissance. The album was released in 2017 and received critical acclaim for its "sensitive and nuanced" performances. Little Consort has also been recognized for their contributions to the early music community, receiving the 2018 Early Music Young Artists Award from the National Centre for Early Music in York. The award recognizes outstanding young musicians who are making a significant contribution to the early music scene in the UK.
