Altius Quartet is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2011 in Boulder, Colorado. The quartet consists of four members: Andrew Giordano (violin), Joshua Ulrich (violin), Andrew Krimm (viola), and Zachary Reaves (cello). The ensemble has gained recognition for their dynamic performances and innovative programming. The founding members of Altius Quartet met while studying at the University of Colorado Boulder. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and decided to form a quartet. The group took its name from the Latin word "altius," which means "higher" or "deeper." This name reflects the quartet's commitment to exploring the depths of classical music and pushing the boundaries of traditional performance. Altius Quartet has performed at numerous prestigious venues and festivals, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Aspen Music Festival. They have also collaborated with renowned musicians such as pianist Simone Dinnerstein and cellist Matt Haimovitz. One of the highlights of Altius Quartet's career was their performance at the 2016 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. The quartet won the silver medal in the senior string division, as well as the award for best performance of a contemporary work. This competition is one of the most prestigious chamber music competitions in the United States, and Altius Quartet's success there helped to establish them as a rising star in the classical music world. In addition to their success at the Fischoff competition, Altius Quartet has also won numerous other awards and honors. They were the grand prize winners of the 2014 Plowman Chamber Music Competition and the 2014 Alice and Eleonore Schoenfeld International String Competition. They have also been awarded the Silver Medal at the 2015 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in Japan. Altius Quartet is known for their innovative programming, which often includes works by contemporary composers alongside more traditional repertoire. They have commissioned and premiered works by composers such as Christopher Theofanidis, Dan Visconti, and Michael Ippolito. The quartet's commitment to new music has earned them a reputation as a forward-thinking ensemble that is helping to shape the future of classical music. Altius Quartet has also been active in educational outreach, working with students of all ages to promote classical music and inspire the next generation of musicians. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops at schools and universities across the United States, as well as in Europe and Asia. Overall, Altius Quartet is a dynamic and innovative ensemble that is making a significant impact on the classical music world. With their commitment to new music and their dedication to education and outreach, they are helping to ensure that classical music remains a vital and relevant art form for generations to come.More....
