The Royal Conservatory Chamber Choir, Stockholm is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with its exceptional performances for over 50 years. The choir was established by Eric Ericson, a prominent Swedish conductor and choral director, who served as its artistic director until 1982. Under his leadership, the choir quickly gained a reputation for its impeccable musicianship and innovative programming. Ericson's vision was to create a chamber choir that would specialize in a cappella music, particularly the works of contemporary composers. The Royal Conservatory Chamber Choir, Stockholm is made up of 32 professional singers, all of whom are graduates of the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. The choir's members are selected through a rigorous audition process and are known for their exceptional vocal abilities and musical sensitivity. Over the years, the choir has performed extensively both in Sweden and internationally, earning critical acclaim for its performances of a wide range of repertoire, from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary works. The choir has collaborated with many renowned conductors and orchestras, including Claudio Abbado, Herbert Blomstedt, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of the choir's most notable achievements was its participation in the 1998 Nobel Prize ceremony, where it performed a specially commissioned work by Swedish composer Sven-David Sandström. The performance was broadcast live to millions of viewers around the world and was widely praised for its beauty and emotional impact. The choir has also been recognized with numerous awards and accolades throughout its history. In 1970, it won the prestigious International Choral Competition in Arezzo, Italy, and in 1987, it was awarded the Swedish Grammy for Best Classical Album for its recording of works by Swedish composer Lars Johan Werle. In addition to its performances and recordings, the Royal Conservatory Chamber Choir, Stockholm is also committed to promoting choral music education and outreach. The choir regularly conducts workshops and masterclasses for young singers and has established a scholarship program to support the next generation of choral musicians.
