Ensemble Algoritmo is a contemporary classical music group that was founded in 2012 in Rome, Italy. The group is composed of a diverse range of musicians, including composers, performers, and sound engineers, who share a passion for exploring the boundaries of contemporary classical music. The group's name, Algoritmo, is derived from the mathematical concept of an algorithm, which is a set of instructions for solving a problem. This reflects the group's approach to music-making, which involves a rigorous and systematic exploration of musical ideas and techniques. Ensemble Algoritmo has quickly established itself as one of the most innovative and exciting contemporary classical music groups in Italy. The group has performed at major festivals and venues throughout Italy and Europe, including the Venice Biennale, the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. One of the highlights of Ensemble Algoritmo's career was their performance at the 2015 Venice Biennale, where they premiered a new work by the Italian composer Salvatore Sciarrino. The piece, titled "Lo spazio inverso," was a complex and challenging work that showcased the group's technical virtuosity and musical sensitivity. In 2016, the group was awarded the prestigious Premio Abbiati, which is the highest honor in Italian classical music. Ensemble Algoritmo's repertoire is diverse and eclectic, ranging from contemporary classical works to experimental electronic music. The group has collaborated with a wide range of composers and performers, including the Italian composer and pianist Ludovico Einaudi, the American composer and saxophonist John Zorn, and the British electronic musician Aphex Twin. One of the group's most notable collaborations was with the Italian composer and sound artist Giuseppe Ielasi, with whom they created a series of experimental electronic works that explored the intersection of sound and technology. The resulting album, titled "Aix," was released in 2017 to critical acclaim. Ensemble Algoritmo's commitment to innovation and experimentation has also led them to explore new forms of musical expression, such as multimedia performances and installations. In 2018, the group collaborated with the Italian visual artist Fabrizio Plessi to create a multimedia installation that combined live music with video projections and interactive elements.
