From a young age, Larsen showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Larsen's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his father and quickly progressed, displaying a natural ability for the instrument. By the age of ten, Larsen had already won several local piano competitions and was gaining recognition as a prodigious young talent. In 1997, Larsen was accepted into the prestigious Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and pedagogue Einar Steen-Nøkleberg. During his time at the institute, Larsen honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of classical music. In 2003, Larsen was awarded a scholarship to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, one of the world's most prestigious music schools. There, he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and pedagogue Yoheved Kaplinsky. Larsen's time at Juilliard was a transformative experience, and he credits Kaplinsky with helping him to develop his unique style and approach to the piano. After graduating from Juilliard in 2007, Larsen began performing extensively throughout Europe and the United States. Following his success at the Verbier Festival, Larsen was invited to perform at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York City and the Royal Albert Hall in London. In 2015, Larsen was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, one of the most prestigious awards in classical music.
