Robert McEwan was born on May 12, 1985, in Edinburgh, Scotland. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a professional pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, McEwan showed a natural talent for music, and he began playing the piano at the age of four. McEwan's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his father and quickly progressed, winning his first competition at the age of six. McEwan continued to study with his father until the age of 12, when he was accepted into the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin School in London. At the Yehudi Menuhin School, McEwan studied with some of the world's most renowned piano teachers, including Peter Feuchtwanger and Marcel Baudet. He also had the opportunity to perform with some of the school's most talented musicians, including violinist Nicola Benedetti and cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason. After graduating from the Yehudi Menuhin School, McEwan went on to study at the Royal College of Music in London. There, he continued to hone his skills as a pianist and began to develop his own unique style. He also had the opportunity to perform in some of London's most prestigious concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall and the Wigmore Hall. McEwan's talent as a pianist quickly caught the attention of the classical music world, and he began to receive invitations to perform at some of the world's most renowned music festivals. In 2007, he made his debut at the Edinburgh International Festival, where he received critical acclaim for his performance of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27, No. 2, also known as the "Moonlight Sonata." Over the next few years, McEwan continued to perform at music festivals around the world, including the Salzburg Festival, the Lucerne Festival, and the Tanglewood Music Festival. He also began to record his performances, releasing his first album, "Robert McEwan Plays Beethoven," in 2010. In 2012, McEwan received one of the highest honors in the classical music world when he was awarded the International Classical Music Award for Best Solo Instrumental Recording. The award was given for his recording of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, also known as the "Pathétique Sonata." McEwan's career continued to flourish over the next few years, and he became known for his passionate and expressive performances. In 2015, he was invited to perform at the BBC Proms, one of the world's most prestigious classical music festivals. His performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18, with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, was hailed as one of the highlights of the festival. In addition to his performances, McEwan also became known for his work as a teacher and mentor. He has taught masterclasses at some of the world's most renowned music schools, including the Juilliard School in New York and the Conservatoire de Paris. He has also mentored young musicians through his work with the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Royal College of Music. Today, McEwan is considered one of the world's leading classical pianists. He continues to perform at music festivals and concert halls around the world, and his recordings are widely praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. He is also a passionate advocate for classical music education, and he works tirelessly to inspire the next generation of musicians.
