Glenys Linos was a renowned classical music artist who was born on January 1, 1939, in Cardiff, Wales. She was the daughter of a Welsh father and a Greek mother, and her family was deeply involved in music. Her father was a professional singer, and her mother was a pianist. From a young age, Linos showed a natural talent for music, and she began taking piano lessons at the age of five. Linos continued to study music throughout her childhood and teenage years, and she eventually attended the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. There, she studied piano with the renowned pianist and teacher, Harold Rubens. She also studied voice, and it was during this time that she discovered her true passion for singing. After completing her studies, Linos began performing professionally as a singer. She quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile performer, and she was soon in demand for concerts and recitals throughout the United Kingdom. She also began to receive invitations to perform in other countries, including the United States and Canada. One of the highlights of Linos' early career was her performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1963. She was invited to sing as part of a concert celebrating the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Her performance was a great success, and it helped to establish her as one of the leading classical music artists of her generation. Over the years, Linos continued to perform in concerts and recitals around the world. She was particularly renowned for her interpretations of the works of Mozart, Schubert, and Brahms. She also had a special affinity for the music of her native Wales, and she often included Welsh folk songs in her recitals. In addition to her performing career, Linos was also a respected teacher. She taught at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama for many years, and she also gave masterclasses and workshops in other countries. Many of her students went on to have successful careers as classical music artists themselves. Linos received many awards and honors throughout her career. In 1974, she was awarded the OBE (Order of the British Empire) for her services to music. She was also awarded the Welsh Music Prize in 1982, and she was made a Fellow of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 1990. One of the most memorable performances of Linos' career took place in 1992, when she was invited to sing at the opening ceremony of the Barcelona Olympics. She performed a stirring rendition of the Welsh national anthem, "Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau," in front of a global audience of millions. Linos continued to perform and teach until her retirement in the early 2000s. She passed away on December 28, 2015, at the age of 76. Her legacy as a classical music artist and teacher lives on, and she is remembered as one of the most talented and beloved performers of her generation.
