Johanna Peters was born on May 15, 1985, in Vienna, Austria. She was born into a family of musicians, with her father being a renowned pianist and her mother a violinist. From a young age, Johanna showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Johanna's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She began taking piano lessons with her father and quickly progressed, displaying an exceptional ability to interpret and perform classical music. By the age of ten, Johanna had already won several local piano competitions and was gaining recognition as a prodigious talent. At the age of twelve, Johanna was accepted into the prestigious Vienna Conservatory, where she studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Professor Franz Schmidt. Under his guidance, Johanna's skills as a pianist flourished, and she began to develop her own unique style and interpretation of classical music. Johanna's breakthrough performance came at the age of sixteen when she won the International Piano Competition in Salzburg, Austria. Her performance of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27, No. 2, also known as the "Moonlight Sonata," was hailed as a masterpiece, and she was awarded first prize. Following her success in Salzburg, Johanna began to receive invitations to perform at major concert halls and festivals around the world. She made her debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2003, where she performed a program of works by Chopin, Liszt, and Beethoven to critical acclaim. Over the years, Johanna has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. She has also collaborated with many renowned conductors, including Daniel Barenboim, Sir Simon Rattle, and Riccardo Muti. One of Johanna's most memorable performances was at the 2008 Proms in London, where she performed Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor with the London Symphony Orchestra. Her performance was described as "spellbinding" and "mesmerizing," and she received a standing ovation from the audience. Johanna has also been recognized for her recordings, which have received critical acclaim and numerous awards. Her recording of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73, with the Vienna Philharmonic and conductor Christian Thielemann, won the Grammy Award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo in 2012. In addition to her performing career, Johanna is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. She has taught masterclasses at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School in New York City and the Royal Academy of Music in London. She is also a member of the faculty at the Vienna Conservatory, where she teaches piano performance. Johanna's dedication to music and her exceptional talent have earned her numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 2010, she was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, First Class, in recognition of her contributions to the arts.
