Morna Edmundson is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of choral music. She was born in Vancouver, Canada, in 1963, and grew up in a family that valued music and the arts. Her parents were both music teachers, and they encouraged her to pursue her passion for music from a young age. Edmundson began her musical journey by learning to play the piano and the violin. Edmundson's work with Elektra has earned her numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2003, she was named the Conductor of the Year by the British Columbia Choral Federation. In 2005, she received the Betty Spence Award for Outstanding Leadership in the Arts, and in 2010, she was awarded the prestigious YWCA Women of Distinction Award in the Arts, Culture, and Design category. In addition to her work with Elektra, Edmundson is also a sought-after guest conductor and clinician. She has conducted choirs in Canada, the United States, and Europe, and has served as a guest clinician at numerous choral festivals and workshops. One of the highlights of Edmundson's career was her participation in the 2017 World Symposium on Choral Music in Barcelona, Spain. She was one of only a handful of Canadian conductors invited to participate in this prestigious event, which brought together some of the world's finest choral musicians and conductors. Edmundson's approach to choral music is characterized by a deep respect for the traditions of the past, combined with a willingness to explore new and innovative approaches to the art form. She is known for her ability to bring out the best in her singers, and for her commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive environment in which all members of the choir can thrive.
