The members of Yarn/Wire are Laura Barger and Ning Yu on pianos, and Ian Antonio and Russell Greenberg on percussion. The founding members of Yarn/Wire met while studying at the Manhattan School of Music. They were drawn together by their shared interest in contemporary classical music and their desire to explore new sounds and techniques. The ensemble's name, Yarn/Wire, reflects this interest in experimentation and innovation. "Yarn" refers to the strings of the piano, while "wire" refers to the percussion instruments. Since its founding, Yarn/Wire has become one of the most respected and innovative ensembles in the contemporary classical music world. The ensemble has commissioned and premiered works by some of the most important composers of our time, including David Lang, Anthony Braxton, and Alex Mincek.
