He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. From a young age, Mangor showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of six. Mangor's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons and quickly became a skilled pianist. He also showed an interest in composition and began writing his own music at a young age. In 1944, Mangor enrolled at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where he studied piano and composition. He was a dedicated student and quickly became known for his talent and hard work. He graduated from the academy in 1950 with top honors. After graduating, Mangor began performing as a solo pianist and quickly gained a reputation as one of Denmark's most talented musicians. He performed in concerts throughout Denmark and Europe, and his performances were always well-received. In 1953, Mangor won the prestigious Carl Nielsen Prize, which is awarded to the best young Danish composer. This was a major achievement for Mangor and helped to establish him as a leading figure in the Danish classical music scene. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Mangor continued to perform and compose music. He wrote a number of pieces for piano, as well as orchestral works and chamber music. His music was known for its emotional depth and technical complexity, and he was widely regarded as one of Denmark's most important composers. In 1970, Mangor was appointed as a professor of music at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, where he taught piano and composition. He was a beloved teacher and mentor to many young musicians, and his influence can still be felt in the Danish classical music scene today. Mangor continued to perform and compose music throughout the 1970s and 1980s, and his music continued to be well-received by audiences and critics alike.
