Artist Info
Hanna Kappelin was born on May 12, 1985, in Stockholm, Sweden. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Kappelin showed a natural talent for music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Kappelin's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She began taking lessons with renowned violin teachers in Sweden and quickly gained recognition for her exceptional skills. At the age of 12, Kappelin won her first major competition, the Swedish National Violin Competition. Following her success in Sweden, Kappelin began to compete internationally. In 2000, she won the Menuhin Competition in London, one of the most prestigious violin competitions in the world. This victory launched her career and led to numerous invitations to perform with orchestras and at festivals around the world. Kappelin's performances were praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. She was known for her ability to bring out the nuances of a piece of music and to connect with her audience on a deep level. Her repertoire included works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and many other classical composers. One of Kappelin's most memorable performances was at the 2004 Nobel Prize Concert in Stockholm. She was invited to perform with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in honor of the Nobel Prize laureates. Her performance of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto was met with a standing ovation and critical acclaim. In addition to her performances, Kappelin was also a dedicated teacher. She taught at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and gave masterclasses around the world. Her students praised her for her patience, kindness, and ability to inspire them to reach their full potential. Throughout her career, Kappelin received numerous awards and honors. In addition to her Menuhin Competition victory, she won the Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition in 2002 and the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2004. She was also awarded the Royal Swedish Academy of Music's Litteris et Artibus medal in 2010 for her contributions to the arts. Tragically, Kappelin's career was cut short when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2012. She continued to perform and teach despite her illness, but passed away on January 15, 2014, at the age of 28. Kappelin's legacy lives on through her recordings and the many students she inspired. She was a true artist who dedicated her life to music and touched the hearts of all who heard her play.More....
