Jan Schroeder was born on May 12, 1985, in Berlin, Germany. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Jan showed a natural talent for music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Jan's parents recognized her potential and enrolled her in the prestigious Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, where she studied under the guidance of renowned violinist Ulf Wallin. During her time at the conservatory, Jan honed her skills and developed a deep passion for classical music. After completing her studies, Jan began her professional career as a soloist and chamber musician. She quickly gained recognition for her virtuosic playing and expressive interpretations of classical works. Her performances were praised for their technical precision and emotional depth, earning her a reputation as one of the most promising young violinists of her generation. Jan's breakthrough performance came in 2008, when she won first prize at the prestigious International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. The competition, which is held every four years, attracts some of the world's most talented young violinists and is widely regarded as one of the most important events in the classical music world. Following her victory at the competition, Jan's career took off. She was invited to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. Her performances were met with critical acclaim, and she quickly became a sought-after soloist and chamber musician. In addition to her solo career, Jan was also a dedicated chamber musician. She was a founding member of the Berlin-based Trio Janus, which was known for its innovative programming and dynamic performances. The trio performed extensively throughout Europe and the United States, and their recordings were widely praised for their technical excellence and musical sensitivity. Throughout her career, Jan received numerous awards and accolades for her contributions to the classical music world. In addition to her victory at the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, she was also a recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award. These awards recognized her as one of the most talented and promising young musicians of her generation. Despite her success, Jan remained humble and dedicated to her craft.
