Artist Info
Role:ComposerClancy Newman is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a cellist, composer, and pianist. Born in 1971 in New York City, Newman grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist, so it was only natural that he would develop a love for music at a young age. Newman began playing the cello when he was just six years old, and by the time he was a teenager, he was already performing in public. He attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied with the legendary cellist Harvey Shapiro. After graduating from Juilliard, Newman went on to study at the Yale School of Music, where he earned a Master of Music degree. Throughout his career, Newman has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, and the National Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed as a soloist with many other orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In addition to his work as a cellist, Newman is also an accomplished composer. He has written music for a variety of ensembles, including string quartets, orchestras, and solo instruments. His compositions have been performed by many of the world's leading musicians, including the Emerson String Quartet, the Ying Quartet, and the American Symphony Orchestra. One of Newman's most notable performances was his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1994. He performed the Dvorak Cello Concerto, which was met with critical acclaim. The Philadelphia Inquirer called his performance "a triumph," and the Philadelphia Daily News praised his "rich, warm tone and impeccable technique." Newman has also received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 1999, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show great potential for a successful career in classical music. He has also been a recipient of the BMI Student Composer Award and the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award. In addition to his work as a performer and composer, Newman is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at many prestigious institutions, including the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently on the faculty at the Mannes School of Music in New York City. Newman's recordings have also received critical acclaim. His album, "The Art of Fugue," which features his own arrangements of Bach's music, was praised by The New York Times as "a stunning achievement." His album, "Unaccompanied Cello Works," was also highly praised, with The Strad calling it "a must-have for any serious cellist." In addition to his work in classical music, Newman is also a member of the bluegrass band, The Clarion Quartet. The group has released several albums, including "The Clarion Quartet Plays Mozart," which was praised by The New York Times as "a delightful surprise." Overall, Clancy Newman is a highly respected and accomplished classical music artist. His performances as a cellist, composer, and pianist have earned him critical acclaim and numerous awards. He continues to inspire and educate young musicians through his teaching and performances, and his contributions to the world of classical music will undoubtedly be remembered for years to come.More....
