Artist Info
Notos Quartett is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2007 in Berlin, Germany. The quartet consists of four members: Sindri Lederer (violin), Andrea Burger (violin), Philipp Grahammer (viola), and Antonia Rankersberger (cello). The ensemble has gained recognition for their unique sound and interpretation of classical music. The founding members of Notos Quartett met while studying at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and decided to form a quartet. The ensemble takes its name from the Greek word "notos," which means "south wind." This name reflects the quartet's desire to bring a fresh and vibrant energy to classical music. Notos Quartett has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Konzerthaus Berlin, and the Wigmore Hall in London. They have also been invited to perform at numerous music festivals, such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, and the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. One of the highlights of Notos Quartett's career was their performance at the 2016 Beethovenfest in Bonn, Germany. The quartet was invited to perform all of Beethoven's string quartets over the course of three days. This was a monumental undertaking, as Beethoven's string quartets are considered some of the most challenging and complex works in the classical music repertoire. Notos Quartett received critical acclaim for their performances, with reviewers praising their technical skill and emotional depth. In addition to their performances, Notos Quartett has also received numerous awards and accolades. In 2011, they won the International Joseph Joachim Chamber Music Competition in Weimar, Germany. This competition is one of the most prestigious chamber music competitions in the world, and winning it is a significant achievement for any ensemble. Notos Quartett has also been awarded the German Music Competition Prize and the Chamber Music Prize of the Berlin Academy of Arts. Notos Quartett is known for their innovative programming, which often includes lesser-known works alongside more familiar pieces. They are particularly interested in exploring the music of composers who have been overlooked or forgotten by history. For example, they have performed works by the Austrian composer Franz Schreker, who was once considered one of the most important composers of his time but fell into obscurity after World War II. Notos Quartett has also collaborated with a number of other musicians and artists. They have worked with the German actor Burghart Klaußner to create a program that combines music and spoken word. They have also collaborated with the German artist Michaela Schweiger to create a multimedia performance that combines music and visual art. Overall, Notos Quartett is a dynamic and innovative ensemble that is pushing the boundaries of classical music. Their unique sound and interpretation of the repertoire have earned them critical acclaim and a devoted following. As they continue to explore new avenues in music and collaborate with other artists, it is clear that Notos Quartett will remain a force to be reckoned with in the classical music world.More....
