Artist Info
Margret Görner was a renowned classical music artist who was born on May 12, 1921, in Berlin, Germany. She was the daughter of a music teacher and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. Her father recognized her talent for music at a young age and started teaching her piano when she was just four years old. Görner's love for music continued to grow as she got older, and she started taking formal music lessons at the age of six. She showed exceptional talent and dedication to her craft, and by the time she was a teenager, she was already performing in public concerts. In 1939, Görner enrolled at the Berlin University of the Arts, where she studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and composer Walter Gieseking. She continued to hone her skills and develop her unique style, which was characterized by her technical precision and emotional depth. Görner's career took off in the 1940s, and she quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented pianists of her generation. She performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, including the Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera. One of the highlights of Görner's career was her performance at the Salzburg Festival in 1952. She played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, also known as the "Emperor Concerto," to critical acclaim. Her performance was described as "spellbinding" and "mesmerizing," and it cemented her reputation as one of the greatest pianists of her time. Görner continued to perform and record throughout the 1950s and 1960s, and she received numerous awards and accolades for her work. In 1963, she was awarded the Order of Merit of Berlin, one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a citizen of the city. Despite her success, Görner remained humble and dedicated to her craft. She continued to practice for hours every day, always striving to improve her technique and interpretation of the music. Görner's career came to an abrupt end in 1972 when she suffered a stroke that left her partially paralyzed. She was forced to retire from performing, but she continued to teach and mentor young musicians until her death in 2010. Margret Görner's legacy lives on through her recordings and the countless musicians she inspired and influenced throughout her career. She will always be remembered as one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century, whose passion and dedication to music continue to inspire generations of musicians.More....
