Born on February 13, 1962, in Turin, Italy, Pidò showed an early interest in music and began studying piano at the age of six. He later went on to study composition and conducting at the Conservatory of Turin. Pidò's career as a conductor began in the early 1990s when he was appointed as the principal conductor of the Teatro Regio in Turin.
