He was the son of a French father and an English mother, and his family was musically inclined. Pougnet's father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. As a result, Pougnet was exposed to music from a young age and showed a natural talent for the violin. Pougnet began his formal music education at the age of six when he started taking violin lessons from his father. He later studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he was a student of the famous violinist Albert Sammons. Pougnet's talent was quickly recognized, and he won several awards and prizes during his time at the academy. After completing his studies, Pougnet began his professional career as a violinist. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the finest violinists of his generation and was in high demand as a soloist and chamber musician. Pougnet performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. One of the highlights of Pougnet's career was his performance of the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Sir Malcolm Sargent. Pougnet was also a prolific recording artist and made many recordings throughout his career.
