Buzz Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2006 in Montreal, Canada. The ensemble is known for its innovative and eclectic programming, which combines classical music with contemporary and experimental works. The ensemble has gained a reputation for its high-energy performances and its commitment to promoting new music. The founding members of Buzz Ensemble were percussionist Ben Reimer and pianist Chris Goddard. The two musicians met while studying at McGill University in Montreal and quickly discovered a shared passion for contemporary music. They decided to form an ensemble that would focus on performing new and experimental works, and Buzz Ensemble was born. Over the years, Buzz Ensemble has grown to include a number of other musicians, including flutist Lara Deutsch, clarinetist Krista Martynes, violinist Aysel Taghi-Zada, cellist Elinor Frey, and bassist Mark Haynes. The ensemble has also collaborated with a number of guest artists, including composers, conductors, and performers. One of the highlights of Buzz Ensemble's career was their performance at the 2010 Montreal/New Music Festival. The ensemble performed a program of works by Canadian composers, including R. Murray Schafer, Claude Vivier, and John Rea. The performance was well-received by both audiences and critics, and helped to establish Buzz Ensemble as one of the leading contemporary music ensembles in Canada. In 2012, Buzz Ensemble released their debut album, "Thirteen Inversions," which featured works by Canadian composers such as Ana Sokolović, Nicole Lizée, and Andrew Staniland. The album received critical acclaim and was nominated for a Juno Award, which is Canada's top music award. In addition to their performances and recordings, Buzz Ensemble is also committed to promoting new music through education and outreach programs. The ensemble has worked with a number of schools and community organizations to introduce young people to contemporary music and to encourage them to explore their own creativity. Buzz Ensemble has received numerous awards and accolades over the years, including the Prix Opus for Best Concert of the Year in the Contemporary Music category in 2013. The ensemble has also been featured in a number of music festivals and concert series, including the Ottawa Chamberfest, the Toronto Summer Music Festival, and the Vancouver New Music Festival. Despite their success, Buzz Ensemble remains committed to their mission of promoting new and experimental music. The ensemble continues to push the boundaries of classical music and to explore new sounds and ideas. With their innovative programming and high-energy performances, Buzz Ensemble is sure to remain a leading force in the world of contemporary music for years to come.
