Born in 1981 in Novosibirsk, Russia, Gilman showed an early interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of four. His parents, both professional musicians, recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Gilman's family moved to Germany when he was six years old, and he continued his musical education there. He studied with renowned violinists such as Zakhar Bron and Ruggiero Ricci, and later attended the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, where he earned his diploma with honors. Gilman's career as a soloist began in 1993, when he won first prize at the International Louis Spohr Competition for Young Violinists. This was followed by numerous other awards and honors, including the Grand Prix at the International Competition for Young Musicians in Moscow, the International Violin Competition in Kloster Schöntal, and the International Violin Competition in Buenos Aires. Gilman has performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with renowned conductors such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Yuri Temirkanov, and Valery Gergiev. In addition to his work as a soloist, Gilman is also an accomplished chamber musician. He has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Borodin Quartet, the Tokyo String Quartet, and the Emerson String Quartet. He is also the founder and artistic director of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein, where he teaches young musicians from around the world. Gilman's repertoire is wide-ranging, encompassing works from the Baroque era to the present day. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the music of J.S. Bach, and has recorded several albums of Bach's solo violin works. He has also recorded works by other composers such as Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, and Shostakovich. In addition to his performing career, Gilman is also a respected conductor. He has conducted many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. He is also the founder and conductor of the Munich Chamber Orchestra, which he established in 2010. Gilman's contributions to the world of classical music have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 2008, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, one of the country's highest honors. He has also been awarded the Bavarian Culture Prize, the European Culture Prize, and the International Prize for Culture and Art.
