Ensemble La Partita is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for Baroque music. The ensemble is based in Paris, France, and is known for its innovative and dynamic performances of Baroque music. The founding members of Ensemble La Partita were violinist and artistic director, Julien Chauvin, cellist Atsushi Sakaï, and harpsichordist Justin Taylor. All three musicians had extensive experience performing Baroque music and were eager to create an ensemble that would explore the rich and diverse repertoire of this period. Since its founding, Ensemble La Partita has grown to include a core group of musicians who perform regularly with the ensemble, as well as a rotating cast of guest musicians who join the ensemble for specific projects and performances. One of the highlights of Ensemble La Partita's early years was their performance of Bach's St. John Passion in 2013. This performance was particularly notable for its use of historically informed performance practices, including the use of period instruments and a choir that was made up of soloists rather than a traditional choir. In 2014, Ensemble La Partita released their debut album, "Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord," which was met with critical acclaim. The album featured works by Bach, Handel, and Telemann, and showcased the ensemble's virtuosic playing and deep understanding of Baroque music. Over the years, Ensemble La Partita has continued to perform and record a wide range of Baroque music, from well-known works by Bach and Handel to lesser-known works by composers such as Biber and Muffat. In addition to their regular concert schedule, Ensemble La Partita has also been invited to perform at a number of prestigious festivals and venues around the world. In 2016, they performed at the Festival de Saintes in France, where they were praised for their "exquisite playing" and "impeccable ensemble work." In 2018, Ensemble La Partita was awarded the prestigious Diapason d'Or award for their recording of Bach's Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord. This award is given annually to the best classical recordings of the year, and is considered one of the highest honors in the classical music world. Looking to the future, Ensemble La Partita shows no signs of slowing down. They continue to explore new repertoire and push the boundaries of Baroque performance practice, while also remaining true to their core mission of bringing this rich and vibrant music to audiences around the world.
