Dora Bratchkova is a Bulgarian violinist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and musical interpretations. She was born on October 22, 1977, in Sofia, Bulgaria, into a family of musicians. Her father, Alexander Bratchkov, was a renowned violinist and her mother, Maria Bratchkova, was a pianist. Dora began playing the violin at the age of four and showed exceptional talent from an early age. At the age of six, Dora gave her first public performance, playing the Mozart Violin Concerto No. 3 with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra. She continued to perform regularly in Bulgaria and other European countries throughout her childhood and teenage years, winning numerous competitions and awards. In 1995, Dora moved to Germany to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover with Professor Krzysztof Wegrzyn. She also studied with Professor Zakhar Bron at the Musikhochschule Lübeck. During her studies, Dora won several international competitions, including the International Violin Competition in Kloster Schöntal, Germany, and the International Violin Competition in Novosibirsk, Russia. After completing her studies, Dora began to establish herself as a soloist and chamber musician, performing with orchestras and in recitals throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States. She has collaborated with many renowned conductors, including Sir Neville Marriner, Vladimir Ashkenazy, and Christoph Eschenbach. One of the highlights of Dora's career was her performance of the Brahms Violin Concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle in 2006. The performance was highly acclaimed by critics and established Dora as one of the leading violinists of her generation. Dora has also been a dedicated chamber musician, performing with many distinguished artists, including pianist Lars Vogt, cellist Alban Gerhardt, and violist Tabea Zimmermann. She is a founding member of the Trio Vivente, which has performed extensively throughout Europe and Asia. In addition to her performing career, Dora is also a respected teacher. She has taught at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover and the Musikhochschule Lübeck, and has given masterclasses in many countries. Dora has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career, including the Echo Klassik Award in 2007 for her recording of the Brahms Violin Sonatas with pianist Lars Vogt. She was also awarded the Bulgarian Order of Stara Planina in 2010 for her contributions to Bulgarian culture. Dora plays on a violin made by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini in 1750, which is on loan to her from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben.
