Artist Info
Period:ClassicalRomanticGenre:ConcertoKeyboardVladimir Shakin was a renowned classical music artist who was born on December 12, 1948, in Moscow, Russia. He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a well-known pianist. From a young age, Shakin showed a keen interest in music, and his father began teaching him how to play the piano when he was just five years old. Shakin's talent for music was evident from an early age, and he quickly became a prodigy. He began performing in public when he was just seven years old, and by the time he was a teenager, he had already won several prestigious awards for his piano playing. In 1966, Shakin enrolled at the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied under the renowned pianist and teacher, Yakov Flier. Flier recognized Shakin's exceptional talent and worked closely with him to help him develop his skills as a pianist. During his time at the Moscow Conservatory, Shakin won several awards for his piano playing, including the First Prize at the All-Union Piano Competition in 1970. He also performed in several concerts and recitals, both in Russia and abroad, and quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented young pianists of his generation. After graduating from the Moscow Conservatory in 1971, Shakin began his professional career as a pianist. He quickly gained a following and began performing in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. Throughout his career, Shakin was known for his exceptional technique and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and Tchaikovsky, and his performances of these composers' works were often described as transcendent. In addition to his career as a performer, Shakin was also a respected teacher and mentor. He taught at the Moscow Conservatory for many years, and many of his students went on to become successful pianists in their own right. Shakin's career was marked by many highlights, including his performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra in 1974, which was widely regarded as one of the greatest performances of the work ever recorded. He also performed at the opening ceremony of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, where he played Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 to a global audience of millions. Throughout his career, Shakin won numerous awards and accolades for his piano playing, including the People's Artist of Russia award in 1995 and the State Prize of the Russian Federation in 2000. He was also awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, one of Russia's highest honors, in 2008. Sadly, Shakin's career was cut short when he passed away on December 17, 2013, at the age of 65. However, his legacy as one of the greatest pianists of his generation lives on, and his recordings and performances continue to inspire and move audiences around the world.More....
