Role:EnsembleThe Danish National Children's Choir is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their angelic voices for over 80 years. The choir was founded in 1938 by composer and conductor Mogens Wöldike, who was inspired by the success of the Vienna Boys' Choir. Wöldike believed that Denmark needed a children's choir of its own, and he set out to create one that would rival the best in the world. The choir started out with just 24 members, but it quickly grew in size and reputation. Under Wöldike's leadership, the choir became known for its impeccable musicianship and its ability to perform a wide range of repertoire, from medieval chants to contemporary works. The choir's first major performance was in 1940, when they sang at the opening of the Danish Parliament. This was followed by a series of concerts throughout Denmark, which helped to establish the choir as one of the country's premier cultural institutions. Over the years, the Danish National Children's Choir has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Sydney Opera House. They have also collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors and orchestras, including Leonard Bernstein, Sir Simon Rattle, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of the highlights of the choir's history was their performance at the 1964 World's Fair in New York. The choir sang for President Lyndon B. Johnson and a crowd of over 100,000 people, and their performance was broadcast on national television. This was a major milestone for the choir, as it helped to raise their profile in the United States and around the world. The Danish National Children's Choir has also been recognized for their outstanding achievements with numerous awards and honors. In 1955, they were awarded the prestigious Sonning Prize, which is given to individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to the arts in Denmark. They have also been awarded the Danish Music Award for Best Classical Album three times, most recently in 2019 for their album "Nordic Soundscapes." Despite their many accomplishments, the Danish National Children's Choir remains committed to their mission of inspiring and educating young people through music. They continue to perform regularly throughout Denmark and around the world, and they have also established a music school for children in Copenhagen. Through their performances and educational programs, the choir has touched the lives of countless people and helped to promote the beauty and power of classical music.More....
