Matthias Schorn is a renowned Austrian clarinetist who has made a name for himself in the world of classical music. Born on August 23, 1980, in Linz, Austria, Schorn grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a clarinetist, and his mother was a pianist. Schorn started playing the clarinet at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. Schorn's early musical education was at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz, where he studied with Johann Hindler. He later went on to study at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Peter Schmidl, the former principal clarinetist of the Vienna Philharmonic. Schorn's talent was evident from an early age, and he quickly gained recognition as one of the most promising young clarinetists in Austria. Schorn's career took off in 2003 when he won the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in Munich. This competition is one of the most prestigious music competitions in the world and is open to musicians under the age of 30. Schorn's victory in the competition was a major milestone in his career and helped to establish him as a rising star in the classical music world. Since winning the ARD International Music Competition, Schorn has gone on to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed at some of the world's most prestigious music festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the Lucerne Festival, and the BBC Proms. One of Schorn's most notable performances was his debut with the Vienna Philharmonic in 2005. He performed Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A major, K. 622, under the baton of conductor Riccardo Muti. The performance was a huge success, and Schorn received rave reviews for his virtuosic playing and musical sensitivity. In addition to his work as a soloist, Schorn is also an accomplished chamber musician. He is a member of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and has performed with some of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Hagen Quartet and the Alban Berg Quartet. Schorn's discography is extensive, and he has recorded numerous albums as a soloist and chamber musician. Some of his most notable recordings include his 2010 album "Clarinet Concertos" with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, which features works by Mozart, Weber, and Spohr, and his 2015 album "Brahms: The Clarinet Sonatas" with pianist Oliver Triendl. Schorn's talent and hard work have been recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In addition to his victory in the ARD International Music Competition, he has also won the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship and the Jeunesses Musicales International Competition in Belgrade.
