Spielleyt is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1996 in Germany. The group is known for its unique blend of medieval and Renaissance music, as well as its innovative interpretations of classical works. The founding members of Spielleyt were Andreas Fischer (recorder), Michael Metzler (percussion), and Norbert Rodenkirchen (flute). The group was initially formed as a trio, but soon expanded to include other musicians, such as singer Sabine Lutzenberger and lutenist Lee Santana. One of the highlights of Spielleyt's early career was their performance at the 1998 Tage Alter Musik festival in Regensburg, Germany. The group's innovative approach to early music was well-received by audiences and critics alike, and they quickly gained a reputation as one of the most exciting and dynamic ensembles in the field. Over the years, Spielleyt has performed at numerous festivals and concert halls throughout Europe and the United States. Their debut album, "Musica Antiqua," was released in 1998 and featured a mix of medieval and Renaissance music. The album was praised for its innovative arrangements and virtuosic performances. Spielleyt's second album, "Cantigas de Santa Maria," was released in 2001 and focused on the music of the Spanish composer Alfonso X. The album featured guest appearances by several prominent early music performers, including Jordi Savall and Montserrat Figueras. In 2004, Spielleyt released "Ludus Danielis," a recording of music from the medieval play of the same name. The album was praised for its evocative performances and innovative use of percussion instruments. In addition to their recordings and live performances, Spielleyt has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2002, the group was awarded the prestigious Echo Klassik award for their album "Cantigas de Santa Maria." They have also been nominated for several other awards, including the Grammy Award for Best Small Ensemble Performance. Despite their success, Spielleyt remains committed to exploring new and innovative approaches to early music. The group continues to push the boundaries of the genre, incorporating elements of jazz, world music, and other styles into their performances. Today, Spielleyt is comprised of Andreas Fischer (recorder), Michael Metzler (percussion), Norbert Rodenkirchen (flute), Sabine Lutzenberger (singer), Lee Santana (lute), and David Mayoral (percussion).
