He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. From a young age, Guillard showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of five. Guillard's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began studying at the Paris Conservatory at the age of 12, where he studied under some of the most renowned music teachers of the time. Guillard was a dedicated student and spent countless hours practicing and perfecting his craft. In 1945, Guillard made his debut as a concert pianist at the Salle Gaveau in Paris. The performance was a huge success, and Guillard quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented young pianists in France. He continued to perform in concerts throughout Europe and the United States, earning critical acclaim for his technical skill and emotional depth. One of Guillard's most notable performances was at the 1955 Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. The competition was one of the most prestigious music competitions in the world, and Guillard was the only French pianist to compete. Despite the intense competition, Guillard's performance was a standout, and he was awarded the second prize. Throughout his career, Guillard was known for his passionate and expressive performances. He had a deep understanding of the music he played and was able to convey the emotions and themes of each piece to his audience.
