Tveitt-Fragments is a contemporary classical composition by Norwegian composer Lars Petter Hagen. The piece was composed in 2002 and premiered on September 6th of the same year at the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival. The composition consists of five movements, each of which is based on fragments of music by Norwegian composer Geirr Tveitt. Tveitt was known for his use of traditional Norwegian folk music in his compositions, and Hagen's work pays homage to this tradition while also incorporating modern elements. The first movement, "Prelude," sets the tone for the piece with a slow, contemplative melody played on the piano. The second movement, "Scherzo," is more lively and playful, with a fast-paced rhythm and intricate piano work. The third movement, "Intermezzo," is a slower, more introspective piece that features a haunting melody played on the violin. The fourth movement, "Sarabande," is a nod to Tveitt's love of Baroque music, with a slow, stately rhythm and intricate counterpoint between the piano and violin. The final movement, "Postlude," brings the piece to a close with a return to the contemplative mood of the opening movement. Overall, Tveitt-Fragments is a beautiful and complex work that showcases Hagen's skill as a composer and his deep appreciation for the music of Geirr Tveitt. The piece seamlessly blends traditional Norwegian folk music with modern classical elements, creating a unique and captivating listening experience.
