"Our Father" is a choral composition by Bulgarian composer Petr Dinev. It was composed in 1910 and premiered in Sofia, Bulgaria in the same year. The piece is written for four-part mixed choir and is based on the text of the Lord's Prayer. The composition consists of three movements. The first movement is a slow and solemn introduction, with the choir singing the opening words of the prayer in unison. The second movement is more lively and features a call-and-response structure between the choir and a soloist. The third movement returns to the slower tempo of the first movement, with the choir singing the final words of the prayer in harmony. The piece is characterized by its use of Bulgarian folk music elements, including irregular rhythms and modal harmonies. Dinev also incorporates elements of Western classical music, such as counterpoint and harmonic progressions. The result is a unique blend of Bulgarian and Western musical traditions. "Our Father" is considered one of Dinev's most important works and is still performed by choirs in Bulgaria and around the world. Its use of traditional Bulgarian music elements has made it a symbol of Bulgarian national identity in the realm of classical music.
