Amor Rende Sagace is an opera buffa in two acts composed by Domenico Cimarosa. The opera was composed in 1783 and premiered at the Teatro dei Fiorentini in Naples on January 26, 1785. The libretto was written by Giuseppe Palomba. The plot of the opera revolves around the character of Don Giulio, a wealthy nobleman who is in love with the beautiful and virtuous Rosina. However, Rosina is already engaged to Don Florindo, a wealthy merchant. Don Giulio, determined to win Rosina's heart, enlists the help of his servant, Pasquale, to come up with a plan to break up the engagement between Rosina and Don Florindo. Pasquale, who is in love with Rosina's maid, Lisetta, agrees to help Don Giulio. Together, they come up with a plan to make Don Florindo jealous by having Pasquale pretend to be in love with Rosina. The plan works, and Don Florindo becomes jealous and breaks off his engagement with Rosina. However, Don Giulio's plan backfires when Rosina discovers the truth about Pasquale's deception. She is heartbroken and decides to leave Naples. Don Giulio realizes his mistake and confesses his love for Rosina. In the end, Rosina forgives Don Giulio, and they are reunited. The music of Amor Rende Sagace is characterized by its lightness and humor. The opera features arias, duets, and ensembles that are full of wit and charm. The music is also notable for its use of comic timing and musical jokes. The premiere of Amor Rende Sagace was a great success, and the opera quickly became popular throughout Italy. It was also performed in other countries, including France and England. Today, Amor Rende Sagace is considered one of Cimarosa's most popular operas and is still performed in opera houses around the world.
