The Mary Queen of the Universe Basilica Choir is a classical music ensemble based in Orlando, Florida. The choir was founded in 1984 by Father Paul J. Jennings, who was the pastor of Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine at the time. The choir has since grown to become one of the most renowned classical music ensembles in the region, with a reputation for excellence in choral performance. The choir's early years were marked by a period of rapid growth and development. Under the leadership of Father Jennings, the choir quickly established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the world of classical music. The choir's repertoire was diverse, ranging from traditional hymns and sacred music to contemporary works by modern composers. One of the choir's earliest highlights came in 1986, when they were invited to perform at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. The performance was a resounding success, and helped to establish the choir's reputation as a top-tier classical music ensemble. Over the years, the choir has continued to build on this early success, performing at a wide range of venues and events throughout the United States and beyond. Some of the choir's most notable performances include appearances at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Vatican in Rome, and the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. In addition to their many performances, the Mary Queen of the Universe Basilica Choir has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1992, the choir was awarded the prestigious Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medal by Pope John Paul II, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the Catholic Church. More recently, the choir has been recognized for their work in promoting interfaith dialogue and understanding through music. In 2016, the choir was awarded the Interfaith Award by the Interfaith Council of Central Florida, in recognition of their efforts to bring people of different faiths together through the power of music. Despite their many achievements, the Mary Queen of the Universe Basilica Choir remains committed to their mission of spreading the joy of classical music to audiences around the world.
