Robert Kassinger is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. He was born on August 22, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Kassinger grew up in a family of musicians, and his parents were both professional musicians. His father was a cellist, and his mother was a pianist. Kassinger's parents recognized his musical talent at an early age and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Kassinger began his musical training at the age of six, and he started playing the cello when he was eight years old. He studied under the guidance of some of the most prominent cello teachers of his time, including Leonard Rose, Janos Starker, and Bernard Greenhouse. Kassinger's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and he quickly became one of the most promising young cellists of his generation. Kassinger's career as a professional musician began in the early 1970s when he joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as a cellist. He played with the orchestra for over a decade and became one of its most respected members. During his time with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Kassinger also performed as a soloist with several other orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. In 1984, Kassinger left the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to pursue a solo career. He quickly established himself as one of the most sought-after cellists in the world and began performing with some of the most prestigious orchestras and conductors. Kassinger's performances were always highly acclaimed, and he received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. One of Kassinger's most significant achievements was his performance of the complete Bach Cello Suites. He performed the suites in a series of concerts in 1990, and the performances were widely regarded as some of the best interpretations of the suites ever recorded. Kassinger's recording of the Bach Cello Suites was also highly acclaimed and won several awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance. Kassinger's other notable performances include his collaboration with the renowned pianist Emanuel Ax. The duo performed together in several concerts and recorded several albums, including the highly acclaimed recording of Beethoven's complete works for cello and piano. Kassinger also performed with the Emerson String Quartet, one of the most respected string quartets in the world. Throughout his career, Kassinger was also a dedicated teacher and mentor to young musicians. He taught at several prestigious music schools, including the Juilliard School, the New England Conservatory of Music, and the University of Michigan School of Music. Kassinger's students included some of the most promising young cellists of their generation, and many of them went on to have successful careers in music. Kassinger's contributions to the world of music were recognized with numerous awards and honors. He was awarded the Avery Fisher Prize in 1989, one of the most prestigious awards in classical music. He was also awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1997, the highest honor given to artists by the United States government. Sadly, Kassinger passed away on December 31, 2018, at the age of 65.
