He was the youngest of six children in his family, and his parents were both farmers. Despite his humble beginnings, Bingialis showed an early interest in music and began playing the accordion at the age of six. Bingialis' musical talent was recognized early on, and he was sent to study at the Kaunas Conservatory in Lithuania. There, he studied under the renowned Lithuanian composer and conductor Juozas Naujalis. Bingialis quickly became known for his virtuosic accordion playing, and he began performing in concerts throughout Lithuania. In 1939, Bingialis moved to Paris to continue his musical studies. He studied at the École Normale de Musique de Paris under the accordionist Joseph Colombo. While in Paris, Bingialis also studied composition with the composer and conductor Nadia Boulanger. Bingialis' career took off in the 1940s, and he became known as one of the world's greatest accordionists. He performed in concerts throughout Europe and the United States, and he was praised for his technical skill and musicality. Bingialis also began recording his music, and his recordings became popular with audiences around the world. One of Bingialis' most notable performances took place in 1955, when he performed at the International Accordion Festival in London. His performance was so well-received that he was invited to perform at the festival again the following year. Bingialis also performed at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland in 1956, where he received a standing ovation from the audience. Bingialis' talent was recognized with numerous awards throughout his career. In 1957, he was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for his recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations. He was also awarded the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Art in 1966. In addition to his performing career, Bingialis was also a composer. He wrote numerous pieces for the accordion, including his Sonata for Accordion, which is considered one of his most important works. Bingialis' compositions were known for their technical difficulty and their incorporation of Lithuanian folk music. Bingialis continued to perform and record music throughout his life. He died on December 31, 1995, in Vilnius, Lithuania, at the age of 80. His legacy as one of the world's greatest accordionists and composers lives on through his recordings and the continued popularity of his music.More....
