Kontrapunktus is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2005 by a group of talented musicians who shared a passion for early music. The ensemble is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, and is known for its innovative and dynamic performances of music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The founding members of Kontrapunktus were violinist and artistic director Jakob Bloch Jespersen, harpsichordist and organist Morten Grove Frandsen, and cellist and viola da gamba player Mikkel Sørensen. All three musicians had extensive experience performing early music and were eager to explore new ways of interpreting and presenting this repertoire. From the beginning, Kontrapunktus was committed to performing on period instruments and using historically informed performance practices. This approach allowed the ensemble to create performances that were both authentic and engaging, bringing the music of the past to life for modern audiences. Over the years, Kontrapunktus has expanded its membership to include a range of talented musicians, including singers, instrumentalists, and dancers. The ensemble has also collaborated with a number of other artists and organizations, including the Royal Danish Ballet, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, and the Copenhagen Renaissance Music Festival. One of the highlights of Kontrapunktus's career was its performance at the 2010 Copenhagen Renaissance Music Festival. The ensemble presented a program of music by the Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi, including selections from his famous opera "L'Orfeo." The performance was praised for its energy, precision, and emotional depth, and helped to establish Kontrapunktus as one of the leading early music ensembles in Denmark. In addition to its live performances, Kontrapunktus has also released several critically acclaimed recordings. These include "Bach: The Art of Fugue," which was praised by Gramophone magazine for its "clarity, precision, and musicality," and "Handel: Water Music," which was described by BBC Music Magazine as "a joyous celebration of Handel's music." Kontrapunktus has received numerous awards and honors for its work, including the Danish Music Critics' Prize and the Danish Radio P2 Prize for Best Classical Album. The ensemble has also been featured in a number of international music festivals, including the Utrecht Early Music Festival and the Festival Oude Muziek in Bruges. Despite its success, Kontrapunktus remains committed to exploring new ways of interpreting and presenting early music. The ensemble continues to push the boundaries of historical performance practice, experimenting with new instruments, techniques, and styles to create performances that are both authentic and innovative. In conclusion, Kontrapunktus is a classical music ensemble that has made a significant contribution to the world of early music. Founded in 2005 by a group of talented musicians, the ensemble has established itself as one of the leading interpreters of Renaissance and Baroque music in Denmark and beyond. With its commitment to historical performance practice and innovative approach to interpretation, Kontrapunktus has created performances that are both authentic and engaging, bringing the music of the past to life for modern audiences.More....
