The group is made up of six musicians who are all graduates of the Iceland Academy of the Arts. The members of the ensemble are: Hildigunnur Halldórsdóttir (flute), Emilía Rós Sigfúsdóttir (clarinet), Þórunn Ósk Marinósdóttir (violin), Sigrún Harðardóttir (viola), Sigurður Halldórsson (cello), and Tinna Þorsteinsdóttir (piano). The ensemble's name, Hljómeyki, means "sound oak" in Icelandic, and reflects the group's commitment to creating a strong and enduring musical foundation. From the beginning, the members of Hljómeyki have been dedicated to exploring a wide range of classical music repertoire, from the Baroque era to contemporary works. One of the highlights of Hljómeyki's early career was their performance at the 2012 Reykjavik Arts Festival, where they presented a program of works by Icelandic composers. The ensemble's performance was well-received by audiences and critics alike, and helped to establish Hljómeyki as one of Iceland's most promising young classical music groups. Since then, Hljómeyki has gone on to perform at a number of prestigious venues and festivals throughout Iceland and Europe. In addition to their performances and recordings, Hljómeyki is also committed to promoting classical music education and outreach.
