Jerry Rubino was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a professional pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Rubino showed a natural talent for music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Rubino began his formal music education at the age of six, studying piano with his father. He quickly progressed and began performing in public at the age of eight. Rubino's talent was recognized by his teachers, and he was accepted into the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division at the age of ten. At Juilliard, Rubino continued his piano studies with renowned pianist and teacher Yoheved Kaplinsky. He also studied music theory, composition, and history. Rubino's talent and dedication were evident, and he won numerous awards and competitions during his time at Juilliard. After graduating from Juilliard, Rubino continued his studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. There, he studied with pianist Gary Graffman and continued to hone his skills as a performer and musician. Rubino's career as a concert pianist began to take off in the early 2000s. He made his debut with the New York Philharmonic in 2002, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5. The performance was a critical success, and Rubino was praised for his technical skill and musicality. Rubino continued to perform with major orchestras around the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. He also performed in major music festivals, such as the Salzburg Festival and the Tanglewood Music Festival. Rubino's repertoire was vast and included works by composers such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff. He was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Chopin, and his recordings of Chopin's music received critical acclaim. In addition to his career as a performer, Rubino was also a dedicated teacher. He taught at the Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music, passing on his knowledge and passion for music to the next generation of musicians. Rubino's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2010. Despite his illness, Rubino continued to perform and teach, inspiring those around him with his strength and determination. Rubino passed away on June 15, 2012, at the age of 27. His legacy as a musician and teacher lives on, and he is remembered as one of the most talented and dedicated pianists of his generation.
